“Resource Spotlight Monday”: Today, the Gender and Identity Factors Platform (GIFP) features “Afghanistan: The Taliban’s War on Women: The Crime Against Humanity of Gender Persecution in Afghanistan.

This report examines the human rights situation for women and girls in Afghanistan following the Taliban's takeover in August 2021. Despite promises to respect women's rights, the Taliban imposed severe restrictions on women's mobility, education, and participation in public life, alongside arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances. The dissolution of support structures for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence illustrate the erosion of women's autonomy. The report argues that these actions may constitute crimes against humanity, urging the international community to recognize Afghan women fleeing persecution as refugees in need of protection.
