“Resource Spotlight Monday”: Today, the Gender and Identity Factors Platform (GIFP) features four resources that explore an emerging area of focus within gender and countering terrorism and preventing and countering violent extremism (CT/PCVE): masculinities and their relevance to CT/PCVE efforts.
These four resources offer insights as to how masculinities not only are used in radicalisation to violent extremism across the ideological spectrum, but also shape counter-terrorism institutions. Collectively, these resources point to why it is important to factor in masculinities in the design, implementation, and monitoring of CT/PCVE programmes and policies. These resources include the following:
-
Masculinities and Disengagement from Jihadi Networks: The Case of Indonesian Militant Islamists
-
Masculinities and Preventing Violent Extremism: Making the Connections
-
Conflicting Identities: The Nexus between Masculinities, Feminities and Violent Extremism in Asia

Remember you can explore additional human rights-based resources via GIFP’s Resource Library. The library spans a multitude of thematic areas of focus across the nexus of gender CT/PCVE, outlining some of the key concepts critical to understanding gender dynamics within terrorism and violent extremism, as well as the programmes and policies that seek to counter and prevent them. All resources are publicly accessible!
