UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT)

UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT)

Established on 15 June 2017, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) leads and coordinates an all-of-UN approach to prevent and counter terrorism and violent extremism. The UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (A/RES/60/288) and its biennial General Assembly Review resolutions provide the substance of UNOCT’s mandate.

Since 2021, with the adoption of its Gender Mainstreaming Policy and Action Plan, the UNOCT strives to strengthen gender mainstreaming across all of its programmes, policies and activities, and support the human rights-compliant and gender-responsive implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and its review resolutions.
